Your salary as a game designer depends on many factors, including the type of job you do, your experience and education, and where you work. Here are some of the possible jobs in the video game industry:

Producer: The producer is responsible for the overall creation of the game. Exact responsibilities depend on the company.

Game Designer: A video game designer or artist creates all the graphics for the game.

Developer: Video game developers are the programmers; they generate the code for the game.

Tester: Testers do just that—they spend their days playing video games to find any bugs before the game goes into production.

Writer: Video game writers develop the scripts and dialogue.

Video game superstars earn big bucks, but most game designers don’t reach that level. A salary of $40,000 to $75,000 is a reasonable expectation. But, in addition to the salary the profession has perks that can delight the committed game enthusiast, including travel to industry conventions and trade shows and the chance to preview new games before they reach the market.

The industry is growing and job opportunities are there even for new game designers. If you love being immersed in the world of game design, you’ll find ample compensation for your hard work.
