You need to get proper training to become a surgical technologist. You will need to have a thorough knowledge of all surgical instruments, as you will be required to be present them throughout the surgery. In addition, you will prepare the patient both before and after surgery.
The surgical technologist will be responsible for washing, shaving, disinfecting, and sterilizing patients before surgery. Once the patient is ready, the technologist accompanies the team of surgeons and helps them prepare for the operation.
A minimum of nine months is required for training, and it may be as long as two years.
After completing your training, you will sit for the National Certificate Exam in order to get a certificate. If you pass this exam, you will become a certified surgical technologist and be able to start working, but you should always keep up to date on the latest developments in surgical technology to be successful in your job.
