Request free information from any of the Idaho surgical technologist programs below. Get on the road to becoming a surgical technologist quickly and easily and start earning what you're worth in this rewarding career field.

As the population ages and technological advances increase the number of possible surgical procedures, the demand for surgical technologists will continue to grow. The majority of surgical techs will work in hospitals, but ambulatory surgery centers and outpatient offices will also provide employment. Certification is essential for employment.

In May 2008 the annual mean wage for surgical technologists was $40,070.  Offices of health practitioners paid the highest annual mean wage: $54,710. The annual mean wage was higher in the District of Columbia ($50,070) than in any of the 50 states. Of the states, California had the highest annual mean wage at $47,280.

Benefits packages from most employers include paid vacation and sick leave, medical and life insurance, and retirement programs. Some employers offer childcare benefits and/or tuition reimbursement.

As in most professions, specialization brings higher salaries. Surgical technologists may advance into a particular area of surgery, such as open-heart surgery or vascular surgery.  With specialized training a certified surgical tech may become the surgical first assistant or circulator, both of which are positions with greater responsibilities. Surgical techs may expand their job opportunities by working for insurance companies or surgical supply businesses.
