A career in environmental science can mean a lot of different things. Under the umbrella of environmental science there are many different types of jobs that are performed. These jobs all have something to do with the environment (obviously) but often that’s about the only similarity many of the jobs have in common.

To begin a career in environmental science, an environmental science degree is needed. Often people go into a career in environmental science with a 4 year degree but some people do have advanced degrees such as Master’s Degrees and PhDs.

At its root, environmental science is an understanding of the physical sciences and the biological sciences and how both of these sciences affect the environment. Earning a degree in environmental science will teach a student all about the environment including the air, water, and soil. Students will also learn a great deal about pollutions and their negative effects on the environment. Additionally, students will also learn how to remedy pollution.

Often students choose to take their 4 year degree in environmental science and build on it with a law degree or an MBA. More and more the environment is impacting all sectors of the working world. Having a background in environmental science looks extremely good to potential employers. So it can help a person get hired and a degree in environmental science can help a person advance to higher levels in the workplace.

For those who decide to pursue a career in environmental science, they can expect to make a good income in almost any job they get. However, some jobs require a more advanced degree just to be considered for hiring. Still other jobs will require an advanced degree in order for advancement. In other words, if a person working in an environmental science job wants to advance past an entry level position then that person will have to have an advanced degree.

Beside jobs in environmental science, there are a number of related jobs that can be obtained with an environmental science degree. Some of these other jobs include: ecologist, chemist, air quality specialist, environmental protection specialist, planner, lobbyist, public health inspector, safety engineer, water quality specialist, and environmental educator. The list of possible jobs goes on and on.

The bottom line is this: The entire world is finally aware that the environment is not something that can withstand constant attacks. For the good of the world, the environment needs to be protected. Almost every country in this world is on board with this way of thinking. This means that environmental scientists need to be employed to ensure that the environment is protected. All of this means a career in environmental science is a great career to choose.

A career in environmental science can be undertaken with a bachelor’s degree or an advanced degree. There are many positions in environmental science, and many occupations relating to environmental science, that are great job and fairly available. Therefore, environmental science is a great career to consider and to actually work in.
