The Art Institutes

The Art Institutes

The Art Institutes system of schools includes more than 40 private, for-profit schools of higher education. Their emphasis is on career preparation for the creative job market.

The Art Institutes offer associate, bachelor’s, and master’s degree programs as well as diploma and certificate programs. Major courses of study include design, fashion design, culinary arts, and multi-media. Availability of degrees and programs differ among the schools. Online, on-campus, evening, and weekend classes allow students to live normal lives while they complete their education.

The Art Institute of Pittsburgh, founded in 1921, is the oldest of The Art Institutes. Online courses are offered by The Art Institute of Pittsburgh--Online Division. The accrediting bodies of their locations accredit schools individually.

Student Life

Students choose between school-sponsored housing, which is available only at certain schools, and independent housing. The Student Affairs Office helps students with housing, counseling, disability services, student activities, clubs, and community activities.

With over 40 locations, most students attend schools near their homes or in cities where they have friends or relatives.

Admissions and Financial Aid

Students can choose from 40 locations nationwide. Program offerings vary by location. Prospective students can apply online or request information from an admissions representative. People who are considering The Art Institutes are encouraged to attend an open house.

Tuition costs vary by school. Financial aid is available to students who qualify. The Student Financial Services Department can help with aid applications. The Art Institutes’ annual Best Teen Chef Competition awards more than $250,000 in scholarships to high school seniors interested in pursuing culinary careers. The national winner receives a full-tuition scholarship.
