The Associate of Arts Degree with a concentration in Health Care Administration/Pharmacy Practice from Axia College of the University of Phoenix focuses on the basic operations of community and institutional pharmacies.

Instruction emphasizes the development of skills in writing, critical thinking, and information utilization, as well as basic courses in pharmacy practice. General education classes help provide a foundation for pursuing a bachelor’s degree in a healthcare field.

If you’re interested in working in a pharmacy, but don’t want to go through a four year Doctor of Pharmacy (PharmD) program, you may want to look into the Associate of Arts degree in Health Care Administration with an emphasis in Pharmacy Practice offered by the University of Phoenix. 

As a student in this program, you’ll study the basic operations of pharmacies, medical terminology, basic pharmacy equipment and practices.  The program also offers a basic overview of the calculations necessary for working with pharmaceuticals, including specific math and measurement requirements.  The associate’s program will also prepare students for further pharmacy programs, including those required to become a licensed Pharmacy Technician.

If you’re interested in working as a pharmacy technician, you may find it helpful to take on work as an aide in a pharmacy or even as a volunteer in a hospital or nursing home setting while earning your degree.  A good math background, as well as courses in English, chemistry, and health education, can also be helpful, whether you plan to seek work with your associate’s degree or pursue further education.  The courses in the University of Phoenix program meet this need, and include classes in mathematics, humanities, social sciences, life sciences, and communication.
