As a student in the pharmacy technology program at Brown Mackie College, you will learn how to perform technical duties related to preparing and dispensing medication under the direction of licensed or registered pharmacists.
At Brown Mackie College you will study pharmacy procedures, anatomy and physiology, medical terminology, and medical administrative practices. Classes in pharmacy practice and procedures cover:
- Medication dosage forms
- Routes of administration
- Pharmacy calculations
- Interpreting medication orders
- Drug classifications
- Parameters for safe drug usage
Six campuses of Brown Mackie College offer Associate of Applied Science degrees in pharmacy technology. Completion of the program prepares you to work in retail pharmacies, hospitals, medical centers, outpatient clinics, and urgent care centers. Programs prepare students to take a national certification exam.
Demand for pharmacy technologists (or technicians) is expected to be high for the foreseeable future. An associate degree and certification will give you a hiring advantage over applicants without degrees. The median annual wage for new pharmacy technicians is $23,650.
