Study Nursing at South University

South University

South University offers three different nursing programs. Each program provides the administrative, technical, clinical, and ethical training you need to succeed in the high-demand profession of nursing.

Registered nurses provide nursing care to patients and may provide health education, administrative services, or case management. They assess the health status of patients, develop and implement nursing care plans, and maintain medical records. Registered nurses may specialize in fields such as pediatric nursing, psychiatric nursing, or hospice care. They may continue their education to become nurse practitioners.

The Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) program, offered at three South University campuses and online, teaches:

  • Innovative healthcare concepts
  • Palliative care
  • Gerontological nursing
  • Complementary and alternative nursing methods
  • Patient teaching skills
  • Management skills

The Nursing RN to BSN degree completion program at South University allows registered nurses with associate degrees to complete their bachelor’s degrees. The program is offered at three South University campuses and online.

The online Master of Science in Nursing (MSN) program helps students develop clinical teaching skills and research skills. Graduation from this program prepares you to pursue more advanced positions in healthcare.

As a graduate of South University’s nursing program, you will be prepared to seek employment in a wide variety of healthcare settings, including:

  • Hospitals
  • Private physician and counseling practices
  • Nursing facilities
  • Community clinics and agencies
  • Research organizations
  • Pharmaceutical firms
  • Rehabilitation facilities
  • School health clinics
  • Academic institutions

The demand for nurses, especially registered nurses, will continue to be very high. Education, experience, location, and specialty greatly affect the salary you will earn. In 2007, the median annual wage for registered nurses in the U.S. was $60,000.

The South University Nursing Program offers a variety of options for students who want to enter the growing and high paying field of professional nursing. South University was founded in 1899, in Savannah. It now has several campuses in Georgia, South Carolina, Alabama and Florida, as well as many online programs.

South University's College of Nursing offers both undergraduate and graduate programs in nursing. These programs cover all fields of study relevant to nursing, including the technical, clinical and administrative training you need to be successful in this field.

South University  offers a Bachelor of Science in Nursing as part of its online program. This enables students to obtain a bachelor's degree without any campus residency. This is ideal for adult students who may be working full time or have other responsibilities that make it difficult to attend classes on campus.

South University also offers an online based Master of Science degree in nursing. To be eligible for this program, you must have a bachelor's in nursing from an accredited college.

The nursing field is one of the few professions that is likely to continue its rapid growth no matter what the state of the overall economy. Even with high unemployment, there is currently a shortage of qualified nurses. This means that nursing is a career that you be well paid for, and practice almost anywhere you choose. Nurses also have a wide variety of choices in terms of where they want to work and what hours.

Whether you are interested in attending school online or on campus, the South University Nursing Program probably has a course of study that will suit your needs.
