Registered nurses (RNs) account for the largest number of nursing professionals. As an RN, you can choose from any number of avenues for providing care. You may be a generalist, providing bedside care in hospitals or assisting doctors in medical practices, or you may choose to specialize.

AS - Nursing (LVN to RN)
Nurse anesthetist is one of four nursing specialties that require a Master’s of Science in Nursing (MSN). A certified registered nurse anesthetist (CRNA) may be the primary provider of anesthesia in certain medical settings.
Hospice nurses need excellent listening and communication skills. They are responsible for providing psychosocial, emotional, and physical support to terminally ill people and their families. They may work in a hospice center or travel to the homes of individual patients.
Mental health nurses (psychiatric nurses) must be patient, empathetic, and able to set physical and emotional boundaries. They conduct mental health assessments, educate consumers, administer and monitor medication, and facilitate therapy groups.
Orthopedic nurses provide care for people with orthopedic or musculoskeletal conditions. In addition to providing direct care, they educate patients and their families about self-care and the resources available for assistance.
Critical care nurses care for patients who are acutely ill or in critical condition. They often care for only one or two patients at a time, providing intensive monitoring and support. Critical care nurses use high-tech equipment and provide all aspects of care.
Nurse educators train nurses. They may teach licensed practical nurses and registered nurses in undergraduate programs or graduate students in master’s or doctoral degree programs. Many nurse educators continue clinical practice. As a registered nurse, your career opportunities are rich and varied.
