For a career in mechanical engineering it’s necessary to be extremely good at math and science. This is because mechanical engineering is all about using math and science in order to use materials from nature and forces of nature in order to make things better for humanity. Therefore a career in mechanical engineering is all about developing ways to help society by using natural forces and materials.
Mechanical engineers use force, energy, and motion for the benefit of people. They figure out ways to use things like wind, sunlight, and water power to people’s advantage.
But they’ll also use materials to create power for the good of society.
The basic job of mechanical engineers is to make things work. They can do this on a very small scale of a very large scale. Mechanical engineers are responsible for making car engines, engines for airplanes, and the control systems for each. Other products that mechanical engineers make include life saving devices, air conditions, heaters, power plants, exercise equipment, computers, printers, and riding lawn mowers.
Basically, if something moves or uses power than a mechanical engineer had some involvement in making it. Mechanical engineers even have a hand in making the machines that make the products listed above and all the other products too.
Obviously this means that mechanical engineers have a hand in making a great many things. So obviously this means that mechanical engineers are in quite high demand. This is good news for anyone who’d like to pursue a career in mechanical engineering. Mechanical engineers are needed for a lot of products and they always will be.
Some of the businesses that hire mechanical engineers include: hotels, banks, hospitals, construction firms, consulting firms, electronics manufacturers, textile industries, the aerospace industry, the auto industry, the petroleum industry, and the industrial machinery industry. This list could go on much longer. There are dozens and dozens of jobs within the mechanical engineering field in the private sector.
There are also many jobs in government that can be secured. A few of these jobs are Army Corps of Engineers, Department of Energy, Federal Aviation Administration, and Nuclear Regulatory Commission. All of these are very important jobs working for very well-known government agencies.
Once a degree in mechanical engineering is earned, the person can then pursue a career in a related occupation. Some of these occupations include: aerospace engineer, aeronautical engineer, automotive engineer, architect, nuclear engineer, tool designer, and many other occupations.
Mechanical engineers make very good money. A mechanical engineer just starting out can expect to make better than $50,000 a year. With five years of experience, that salary should increase to about $65,000 a year.
So a career in mechanical engineering can mean a lot of different things. There are many different jobs that can be performed and many different industries that can be worked in. Most of these jobs require a mechanical engineer to either make things that will help people or to ensure that such things continue to work properly.
