In order to be a cosmetologist, you must take the appropriate exam to receive your cosmetology license. Each type of cosmetology license requires a fee and the appropriate education requirements.
There are several different requirements such as:
- 1800 hours of apprentice education
- Verified 6 month apprenticeship
- Successful completion of practical examination
Once the cosmetology license is obtained, you will have to renew it each year that you wish to be in practice. Renewing the license consists of:
- 6 hours continuing education
- 8 hours for instructors in addition to 6 regular
- Renewal submitted to board office between July 1 and July 31
