This information is your entry to a rewarding, exciting career in one of the fastest growing segments of IT and entertainment. Computer-animated movies such as Shrek, Finding Nemo, and Toy Story have launched this field from “children only” to garner interest in all demographics. Studios are working with qualified animation schools to prepare students for real world jobs that are in high demand. Currently, the average salary for an animation director with 10 years of experience is $85K.

The median wage for animators ranges from $47K to over $60K. These are not guarantees of what you will be earning. Experience, education, type of work, company, and location all influence your salary

Now, more and more schools are offering animation and digital media programs. Quality programs can even be found at community colleges and adult education centers. A prospective student must determine if they are in need of a well known university or if a more local, affordable program will do.

What is critical is to identify your plans, post graduation. Schools focus on different areas of animation. While researching a school, find the kinds of jobs recent graduates have gotten. Ask if the major companies hire graduates of that school.
